Comexim Plunge vs. Ewa Michalak S: The Ultimate Showdown

Comexim Plunge vs. Ewa Michalak S: The Ultimate Showdown

Okay ladies, take a deep breath because today’s post/novel is going to be a lot of me getting down and nerdy about bra measurements. I’ll be comparing Ewa Michalak’s S cut (a padded balconette for larger breasts) to Comexim and Anna Pardal plunges. Both Ewa Michalak and Comexim are incredibly successful female-owned Polish bra companies known for their narrow wires and projected cups.

DISCLAIMER: Ewa Michalak uses scaling/grading to a larger degree than Comexim. The fit and style of her S cut varies a lot between cup sizes. Its gore grows significantly taller and cups grown both higher and deeper. At a certain point, the S switches to become a 4 part balconette.  In contrast, Comexim’s plunge remains much the same as it does in smaller sizes, but stretched. This means that larger sizes may find Comexim’s plunge to be a true plunge, even though it isn’t in smaller sizes. This comparison will be most accurate for those within 2-3 cup volumes of my size.

Top: Ewa Michalak S Letnia Noc Bottom: Anna Pardal Milk and Honey

To get the numbers in this post, I measured my S Kamea (65F) and S Letnia Noc (55G). To make my measurements more accurate, I averaged my measurements (when possible) with those of a close friend in the same cup volume. There were 9 total S bras measured for this comparison, all in the cup volume of 65F (ranging in size from 55G-70E). For the Comexim Plunge numbers, I used my own Anna Pardal Milk and Honey (28FF) and an unaltered Comexim Luna (60H). Again, when possible I averaged my measurements with those of a friend. There were 8 total Comexim plunges measured for this comparison, all in the same cup volume as the Ewas (according to the index size method).

Keep in mind that Comexim uses EU sizing. In EU sizing, 2 cm intervals are used between cups (instead of 1 inch intervals) and there are no double letters. This means that while the two bras I’ve chosen are approximately the same volume, the Comexim bras are slightly smaller.

Okay, so let’s get on to the fun part!

Both bras have 3 part cut and sew foam cups. The two bras are marketed as different shapes, but you can see in the photo here that they’re quite similar! In my opinion, both are padded balconettes, even though Comexim markets theirs as a plunge. In terms of general feel, the wires and foam Comexim (and Anna Pardal) use are softer and more flexible than the ones that Ewa uses. This isn’t a huge difference, but the S has cups that are noticeably firmer. You can see in the pictures how it stands up on its own much better than my Milk and Honey.

So the most immediately visible difference here is that the S cut has cookie pockets (and included pads) while a Comexim plunge does not. Another difference between the two is that Ewa Michalak’s S cut uses a cotton lining, while in Comexim’s plunges the foam cup sits directly against the skin. The cups of the Ewa Michalak S cut are considerably deeper than those of the Comexim plunge, but their width is very similar. It’s interesting to note that in both bra cuts, cup width seems to increase with band size among the same cup volume. There was variation in both Ewa S and Comexim plunge cup heights, but I don’t have enough data on them to suggest any sort of trend. My AP Milk and Honey had by far the shortest cups of any measured bra.

Cup Width

For this measurement, I measured directly from wire to wire (not including the wire channels) with the bra in a resting position.

S Letnia Noc: 4.8″  (12.2 cm)       S Kamea: 5″ (12.7 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 4.7″ (11.9 cm)     Comexim Luna: 5.1″ (13 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg width: 5″ (12.7 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg width: 4.9″ (12.5 cm)

Cup Depth (at Apex)

For this measurement, I put the bra over my knee (pushing the cups inside out) and measured along the inside of the cup at the apex of the bra (with the pads out). In this style, that happens to be along the top seam.

S Letnia Noc: 9.25″ (23.5 cm)     S Kamea: 9.25″ (23.5 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 8.5″ (21.6 cm)   Comexim Luna: 8.3″ (21.1 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg Apex depth: 9.25″(23.5 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg width: 8.4″ (21.3 cm)

Cup Depth (across center)

For this measurement I did the same as above with my knee, but measured from wire channel to wire channel instead of across the top seam. In both S and Comexim Plunge, this measurement is beneath the apex of the bra.

S Letnia Noc: 8.7″ (22.1 cm)     S Kamea: 8.5″ (21.6 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 8″ (20.3 cm)   Comexim Luna: 8″ (20.3 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg center depth: 8.6″ (21.8 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg center depth: 8″ (20.3 cm)

Cup Height

For this measurement, I repeated the above process with my knee, and measured along the center seam from wire to the top of the cup. Like the above measurements, this was taken without pads.

S Letnia Noc: 6″  (15.2 cm)   S Kamea: 5.66″ (14.4 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 5″ (12.7 cm)  Comexim Luna: 5.5″ (14 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg Height: 5.83″ (14.8 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg Height: 5.25″ (13.3 cm)

Pretty noticeable height difference here!

Immediate Projection

The S cut has a clear advantage when it comes to immediate projection! My Comexim plunges all fold over at the bottom a bit, and I don’t get that at all with the S cut. If immediate projection is a make-or-break for you, the S cut is the clear winner. The Comexim plunge has the majority of its projection at the apex (and it’s a fairly high apex).

While both bras are similar at first glance, there are some significant construction differences between the cuts. The upper section in a Comexim plunge is tallest at the sides and tapers down to become quite short by the gore. The upper section in Ewa Michalak’s S cut maintains its height across the entire cup. The Ewa Michalak upper section is taller than the Comexim upper section. The S cut is also much more “tilted inward” and will allow for greater center fullness than the Comexim plunge.

Center Gore!

This is one are where the two cuts are really similar! Both have a medium height gore that is narrow at the top, but the S cut has a shorter gore than the Comexim plunge. Both should be suitable for close set breasts. Both brands have gores that are narrower than UK brands, but Ewa Michalak S cut has a gore that is narrower at the bottom than Comexim’s plunges. I found a fair amount of variation in Ewa Michalak S cut gore width (at the bottom), so YMMV here. All of the S cut gores were narrower than the Comexim plunge gores though. It’s worth noting here that Comexim and Anna Pardal both provide the option for customers to raise or lower gores, and they can also sew them to have overlapping wires.

Center Gore Height

To take this measurement, I measured from the bottom of the band, straight up to the top of the gore in the center.

S Letnia Noc: 2.15″ (5.5 cm)   S Kamea: 2″ (5.1 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 2.5″ (6.35 cm)    Comexim Luna: 2.8″ (7.1 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg Gore Height: 2.25″ (5.7 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg Gore Height: 2.6″ (6.6 cm)

Center Gore Width at Top

For this measurements, I measured from outer-edge to outer-edge of the wires at the top of the gore. This measurement includes wire width and is very similar to Bratabase’s cup separation measurement.

S Letnia Noc: 0.5″ (1.3 cm)    S Kamea: 0.5″ (1.3 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 0.66″ (1.7 cm)     Comexim Luna: 0.8″ (2 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg Gore Width (at top): 0.63″ (1.6 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg Gore Width (at top): 0.77″ (2 cm)

Center Gore Width at Bottom

For this measurement, I measured from underwire to underwire at the bottom of the center gore while the bra was in a neutral position. This measurement does not include wire width.

S Letnia Noc: 0.75″ (1.9 cm)   S Kamea: 1.15″ (2.9 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 1.5″ (3.8 cm)    Comexim Luna: 1.75″ (4.5 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg Gore Width (at bottom): 0.91″ (2.3 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg Gore Width (at bottom): 1.67″ (4.2 cm)

Strap placement is a common issue with Ewa Michalak bras, particularly for petite women, like myself. The S cut is no exception to this rule, and its straps are incredibly wide set. Comexim plunges also have fairly wide set straps, but they move straps inward for customers on request. Wide set straps are primarily an issue in small band/large cup sizes, and you may not have any issues with them in a 70+ band. Ewa Michalak’s S cut has much more variation in strap spacing between model than Comexim’s plunge, so YMMV with any individual S bra. Both the Comexim Plunge and Ewa Michalak S cut use fairly wide straps.

Back Strap Placement

For this measurement, I placed the bra on a flat surface and measured in-between straps in a straight line while the band was on the loosest hooks. The band sizes here are a bit different, and this could alter results. For reference: Letnia Noc is a 55 band, Milk and Honey is a 28 band (that stretches to 26), Kamea is a 65 band that has been altered to a 55 band, and Luna is a 60 band.

S Letnia Noc: 7″ (17.8 cm)    S Kamea: 6.5″ (16.5 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 6″ (15.2 cm)    Comexim Luna: 6.5″ (16.5 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Back Strap Spacing: 6.75″ (17.1 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg width: 6.25″ (15.9 cm)

Front Strap Placement

For this measurement, I laid the bras flat and measured in-between straps in a straight line while the band was on the loosest hooks. I pressed the gore down while taking this measurement to ensure that the bra was actually flat.

S Letnia Noc: 10.75″ (27.3 cm)   S Kamea: 10.15″ (25.8 cm)

AP Milk and Honey: 10″ (25.4 cm)    Comexim Luna: 10″ (25.4 cm)

Ewa Michalak S Avg Front Strap-Spacing: 10.45″ (26.5 cm)

Comexim Plunge Avg Front Strap-Spacing: 10″ (25.4 cm)

You can see here the difference in strap placement. Also, you can see that the S cut has longer wires.

Strap Width

Identical! Both measure exactly 0.6″

Ewa Michalak’s S cut seems to run about ½ a cup size larger than Comexim’s plunge in this cup volume (65F/60FF/55G). The S is considerably deeper than the Comexim plunge with the same cup width. The S has a shorter, narrower gore and is better for center fullness and close set breasts than the Comexim plunge. The Comexim plunge has slightly narrower set straps, and slightly shorter cups than the S cut. The S cut has more immediate projection than the Comexim plunge. Overall, both bras are great options for women who need narrow underwires and projected cups, and both carry a wonderfully large size range!
