Panache Sports Tank Top: Killer Gym Fashion

Panache Sports Top

Being full busted, I’ve always been jealous of women who have cute gym clothes. For one, I’m cheap and won’t pay $100 for leggings. But I’ve also always wanted a tank top with a built in bra. I hate the massive, padded straps of sports bras that are always sticking out of my tank tops. They’re functional, but I definitely wouldn’t use the word pretty. And dammit, I want to look cute sometimes at the gym (even though my lifting face is distinctly un-cute). So I was pretty thrilled when I saw this top on an amazing deal on the 28E at Large Cup Lingerie. The Panache Sport is somewhat of a legend among full-busted women for its support and comfort, and the tank has the wired version of the bra built in. It’s also black, and thus matches with 90% of my gym wear. If you’ve been looking to try the Panache wired sports bra but are unsure of the price or want to feel cuter at the gym, I highly recommend this top!

Seriously, this top is so cute! I love the geo print, although the way the stripes are placed definitely emphasizes my boobs. Which, I don’t mind, but it’s something to be aware of if you feel self-conscious of being fuller-busted in the gym. It’s definitely a big contrast to my Shock Absorbers, which shove them down flatter. The top is a bit long and baggy for me, but that’s to be expected given that it’s made for a woman with a 28 inch ribcage, and mine is 24 inches. I think on most women, this top would be quite formfitting. Something to note is that it isn’t cut with much of a curve for the hips. So if you’re more of a pear shape, you may find that the top rides up on you.

So this is the bra underneath! It’s a bit hard to see, because it’s all black, but it’s identical to what a wired Panache Sport looks like underneath the fashion fabric. If you’re a nerd like me and are curious about the bra’s construction, this post by Abracabra dissects one and shows all the components. The cups are moulded and underwired and are quite tall. Mine were 4.8 inches (12.2 cm) wide, 8.3 inches (21.1 cm) deep, and 6.75 inches (17 cm) tall. They run big, and I’ve chosen to size down in the cup for this one (which I’d recommend to anyone full-on-bottom or with short roots).  It looks like they’re creasing in the photo, but that’s a result of the awkward pose here, not the size of the cups. But, in an ideal world I’d love it if these cups were a little shorter. They extend above where I really have  breast tissue. The tall cups should generally prevent cleavage though, which is definitely a plus in my book.

Panche sport gives a lovely, rounded shape. It’s a moulded cup, so no real surprise there. Again, I think it’s worth reiterating that this bra really does make my bust look bigger and make me overall look more busty. I have found that with certain exercises, having my bust more “out there” limits my range of motion. So that’s just something to think about! The straps are pretty wide-set, and they definitely do cut into my tail of spence. They are however comfy and padded. I wish they were a bit shorter, but they’re considerably more adjustable and short torso friendly than my Shock Absorber.

So in terms of the band, I wish it was tighter. I’ve always heard that Panache Sport runs tight, but tbh I would say this runs just slightly smaller than true to size. I would generally say that you should size up in the band if you’re between sizes, but otherwise keep your standard size. I love the J-hook feature on this! To me, it makes it feel more like a “real” sports bra. The J-hook also adds a considerable amount of support, and I generally keep it done unless I’ll be laying on my back (because it can dig in).

So here you can see that it does have a full band, like a standard bra. I was worried when I bought it that the band wouldn’t be adjustable, so I appreciate that it has the normal 3×3 fastener. One thing to note is that putting on this bra takes a lot of wriggling. If you have limited mobility, give this one a pass. I have a lot of trouble fastening bras behind my back, and around half the time I end up asking one of the ladies I live with to help me out. It’s really hard to put on!

So here’s what the inside looks like! Even though the gore is incredibly high, the wires only extend about half-way up it. They’re also padded, which is nice because they’re wide enough that they sit on my breast tissue. The gore doesn’t tack on me fully, but it’s not necessarily meant to. I wouldn’t wear this bra running for that reason though. I suspect the wires would start to hurt or chafe in high-impact exercise because they sit on my breast tissue in the center. Also, another big thing for me to note is that this top is a bit difficult to store because of the moulded cups. I hang mine, but it’s definitely not a bra that I can just shove in a bag like my Shock Absorbers.

The tall cups on this bra contain breast tissue even when inverted. Which is nice for Yoga and lifting! Something to note is that the fabric of this top 100% feels like a swimsuit. It does not breathe, it does not wick moisture, and I’ve found that it does maintain a bit of stink. Luckily, this weird fabric choice makes this top a mutitasker! I also wear this top as a tankini top when I surf , and I haven’t noticed any wear on it from the salt-water. It stays in place even when I wipe out, and I don’t have to worry about nip-slips or knot accidents! So if you’ve been looking for a modest, high-support tankini this is a great possibility!

I’m just being silly now, but I do really love this top! It’s comfier than my shock absorbers for lower impact exercise and it makes a fantastic sports swimsuit (even though it’s totally not meant for that). I feel more put together when I wear this top, and I love having only a single set of straps!

The top is discontinued, but you can buy it on Amazon or on Ebay!
