Toru and Naoko Sophia: Bodysuit Styling

Toru and Naoko Sophia

Today I’m reviewing Toru and Naoko‘s Sophia bodysuit! It’s unfortunately no longer available, but I’ll link some similar ones at the end of the review. The Sophia bodysuit is long sleeved and made of a fairly heavy-weight stretch jersey. I own it in a standard XS, but sizing overall is pretty flexible because of the large lace up detail. I’d say this could easily fit someone larger than I in both bust and waist. The bodysuit (like the set I reviewed from their Lempicka collection) is wonderfully made, and I have no issues with the construction. All of the seams are finished well, the fabrics are high quality, and the hardware has a good weight. Toru and Naoko has definitely become a favorite mid-priced indie brand of mine. I’m always happy to support female-owned small businesses, and products as beautiful (and versatile) as this one just sweeten the deal.

Sophia’s sleeves are a bit long, but I have no other complaints. The bodysuit closes with two sets of poppers at the gusset, which allows for some extra flexibility. Even though I’m petite, I have a fairly long torso. This bodysuit is a bit of a tight fit length-wise on me. So I’d say it wouldn’t work well on someone very tall. You can easily adjust the corset lacing to fit a variety of body shapes. So my small-busted ladies may be working less of a V-shape in the lacing than I’ve got here. For reference, my bust measures 33 inches (85.09 cm) around and my underbust is 23.5 inches (59.7 cm).

The thick jersey used here helps give a bit of compression in the bust. There’s no internal support, but the thick fabric works to hide nipples and smooth my silhouette. The Sophia bodysuit is completely reversible! You can wear the corset lacing at the back instead of the front for a more understated, conservative look.

I love the cheeky cut of the back of this bodysuit. It also helps it look normal when reversed.

The best part about pieces like this is styling them! I love working lingerie into outerwear, and bodysuits are some of the best at it. It’s so easy to just throw the Sophia on under high-waisted jeans. For my fellow petite ladies/short leg crew: I almost always buy jeans marked as ankle jeans to avoid the petite markup. Honestly brands, it’s less fabric, why should it cost more? I can never resist adding a leather jacket to an outfit. More black and leather is always the solution, right? Sophia is an amazing first bodysuit! I can’t wait to see what else Toru and Naoko come out with. Color me a bodysuit addict! 🙂

How do you all style bodysuits? Do you have a favorite place to buy them?
